Anika

Based between Berlin and the United Kingdom, Anika develops a project at the crossroads of post‑punk, dub and experimental pop, driven by a prominently spoken‑sung voice and slow, often minimal rhythms. Before dedicating herself to music, Anika — born Annika Henderson — worked as a political journalist, a background that informs lyrics marked by social observation and direct phrasing. Her career took shape in the early 2010s when she recorded with Geoff Barrow and members of Beak>, resulting in a self‑titled debut, Anika, released in 2010 on Invada and Stones Throw, where covers and original compositions are rendered in a cold, echo‑saturated aesthetic. Alongside her solo work, she then initiated Exploded View, a group formed with musicians based in Mexico, which released a first album in 2016 and Obey in 2018, continuing this approach between slow krautrock, sonic experimentation and stripped‑down songs. With Change, released in 2021, Anika refocused her solo work around more melodic structures while retaining a dark, repetitive production. On stage as in the studio, she alternates full‑band concerts, more intimate performances and DJ activities, moving between independent European, British and North American scenes that bring together fans of electronic music, experimental rock and alternative songwriting.
