Mega Bog
Under the name Mega Bog, Erin Birgy has since the late 2000s developed a project that sits at the crossroads of art pop, oblique folk, chamber jazz, and experimental writing. Born in Idaho and later passing through Spokane and Olympia in the state of Washington before settling in Los Angeles, Birgy first performed under the names Little Swamp and Midi Marsh before adopting Mega Bog around 2009. Mega Bog's music is distinguished by a highly mobile voice, often winding compositions, and a taste for arrangements that blend floating melody, light dissonances, acoustic motifs, and psychedelic drift. After Okay Human in 2011 and Gone Banana in 2014, Mega Bog refined this approach on Happy Together in 2017, then Dolphine in 2019, Life, and Another in 2021, and End of Everything in 2023. Over the course of the records, the project has moved between adventurous folk, off-kilter pop, and textures close to jazz, without settling into a single format. Mega Bog regularly works with musicians from the American indie scene, notably James Krivchenia and Meg Duffy, in a flexible studio dynamic that supports the repertoire's evolution. Behind its apparent formal freedom, Mega Bog retains a clear sense of song, made of changing vocal lines, fragmented imagery, and a constant tension between intimacy and strangeness.
