Alkaline Trio
Formed in Chicago in 1996, Alkaline Trio established themselves on the American punk scene as a three‑piece centered on Matt Skiba and Dan Andriano, whose alternating vocals have become one of the band’s signatures. Alkaline Trio blends pop‑punk, punk rock, emo and alternative rock into a dark, melodic and direct style, with lyrics marked by black humor, disillusionment, romantic relationships and a macabre imagery inherited both from Chicago punk and a more gothic sensibility. After the early EPs Sundials (1997) and For Your Lungs Only (1998), the band released Goddamnit (1998) and Maybe I’ll Catch Fire (2000), before widening their audience with From Here to Infirmary (2001) and Good Mourning (2003). Crimson (2005) and Agony & Irony (2008) opened a period of broader arrangements, while This Addiction (2010) returned to a more straightforward songwriting approach. Alkaline Trio went on with My Shame Is True (2013), Is This Thing Cursed? (2018), the EP E.P. (2020) and Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs (2024). The band’s trajectory also intersects with Chicago’s punk and hardcore scene: Dan Andriano previously played in Slapstick and Tuesday, they released splits with Hot Water Music and One Man Army, and Matt Skiba was active with Blink‑182 from 2015 to 2022.
