The Bouncing Souls

Formed in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1989, The Bouncing Souls are part of the American East Coast punk scene, at the crossroads of melodic hardcore, pop-punk and a streetwise punk rock driven by collective sing-alongs. For many years centred on Greg Attonito, Pete Steinkopf, Bryan Kienlen and Michael McDermott, and later with George Rebelo on drums, the quartet came to prominence in the early 1990s with several EPs before releasing The Good, the Bad & the Argyle in 1994, followed by Maniacal Laughter (1996), Hopeless Romantic (1999) and How I Spent My Summer Vacation (2001). The Bouncing Souls' sound relies on short songs, a direct energy inherited from New Jersey hardcore and simple melodies, while retaining the band's independent aesthetic. Their discography also includes Anchors Aweigh (2003), The Gold Record (2006), Ghosts on the Boardwalk (2010) and Simplicity (2016), a trajectory closely tied to regular touring and the North American and European punk scenes.
