Cosmic Gate

Cosmic Gate is a duo of trance producers and DJs formed in Krefeld, Germany, in 1999, consisting of Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Bossi). Their early sound was rooted in late‑1990s hard trance. They gained attention with a series of club‑oriented maxi singles such as “The Drums” (1999), “Exploration of Space” (2000) and “Fire Wire” (2001), marked by straightforward arrangements, massive bass lines and simple, effective melodic hooks. The albums Rhythm & Drums (2001) and No More Sleep (2002) extended this dancefloor‑focused aesthetic across European clubs, before a shift toward a more melodic and progressive approach beginning with Earth Mover (2006) and Sign of the Times (2009), where the duo incorporated more vocals and more atmospheric constructions. With Wake Your Mind (2011) and Start to Feel (2014), Cosmic Gate emphasized the balance between vocal trance, song formats and more modern textures, collaborating with vocalists such as Emma Hewitt and Eric Lumiere while remaining rooted in international club and festival scenes. The projects Materia Chapter.One and Materia Chapter.Two (2017), followed by Mosaiik Chapter One (2021), continue this move toward a more detailed progressive trance—using moderate tempos, long builds and dense melodic work to link the trance heritage of the 2000s with current trends in electronic music.
