Dom La Nena

Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1989 under the name Dominique Pinto, Dom La Nena has built a career that spans South America and France, where she grew up partly and where she later settled. A cellist, singer and composer, she develops music at the crossroads of chanson, chamber pop, folk and MPB, with restrained arrangements centered on the cello, the voice and repetitive forms that give her songs an intimate texture. After a classical training and a spell in Buenos Aires, where she studied the cello and performed with the Teatro Colón, Dom La Nena joined the Paris scene and accompanied Jane Birkin at the turn of the 2010s, then Jeanne Moreau. Her first album Ela was released in 2013, followed the same year by the EP Golondrina. In 2014, she formed with Rosemary Standley the duo Birds on a Wire, devoted to a repertoire of covers, and continued alongside her personal work with Soyo in 2015, then the EP Cantando in 2016. Dom La Nena also collaborated with Danças Ocultas on Arco in 2015. Singing in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English, Dom La Nena moves through themes of displacement, language and belonging in her songs, in a largely solo format where writing remains at the forefront.
