Chayanne

Born in 1968 in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, as Elmer Figueroa Arce, Chayanne first became known in the late 1970s as a member of the Puerto Rican boy band Los Chicos before launching a solo career in the mid-1980s. Working in a Latin pop and romantic ballad register infused with Caribbean rhythms and pop-rock elements, he recorded an initial series of Spanish-language albums, from «Chayanne es mi nombre» (1984) and «Sangre Latina» (1986) to the self-titled «Chayanne» (1987) and «Chayanne II» (1988), which put him on stages across Latin America, the Spanish-speaking United States and Spain. The albums «Tiempo de vals» (1990), «Provócame» (1992), «Volver a nacer» (1996) and «Atado a tu amor» (1998) confirmed a style alternating between dance tracks and ballads, later continued with «Simplemente» (2000), «Sincero» (2003), «Cautivo» (2005), «No hay imposibles» (2010), «En todo estaré» (2014) and «Bailemos otra vez» (2023). At the same time, Chayanne developed an acting career in telenovelas and film—most notably the movie «Dance with Me» (1998)—while continuing to tour throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
