Alex Ubago

Born in 1981 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, in Spain's Basque Country, Alex Ubago emerged on the early-2000s Spanish-language pop scene with songwriting focused on sentimental ballads. His debut album, ¿Qué pides tú? (2001), established a style based on acoustic pop melodies, a measured voice and lyrics about relationships, doubt and everyday life, which he developed further on Fantasía o realidad (2003) and Aviones de cristal (2006). His work is marked by an alternation between intimate songs carried by guitar and piano and more pop-rock tracks, with spare arrangements that leave room for the words. Over the years he has multiplied collaborations across the Spanish-speaking world, notably the duet “Sin miedo a nada” with Amaia Montero and the joint project Alex, Jorge y Lena with Jorge Villamizar and Lena Burke, culminating in an album in 2010. The records Calle ilusión (2009), Mentiras sinceras (2012), Canciones impuntuales (2017) and 20 años (2022) continue this trajectory between Spain and Latin America, where he regularly performs live in both electric and more acoustic formats.
