Ricky Martin

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin began very early in music with Menudo, which he joined in 1984, before launching a solo career in the early 1990s between Mexico and Latin American stages. He first made his mark with Latin pop characterized by ballads on Ricky Martin (1991) and Me Amaras (1993), then broadened his range with A Medio Vivir (1995), which introduced more Caribbean rhythms, dance-pop and tropical inflections. The international breakthrough came with Vuelve (1998), driven by a more direct songwriting approach and tracks like "María" and "La Copa de la Vida", before the shift to English with Ricky Martin (1999), an album that firmly established him in global pop. His discography then continued this back-and-forth between Spanish and English and between pop, dance, salsa and reggaeton, from Sound Loaded (2000) to Almas del Silencio (2003), MTV Unplugged (2006), Música + Alma + Sexo (2011) and A Quien Quiera Escuchar (2015). Ricky Martin also multiplied collaborations—notably with Christina Aguilera, Maluma and Carlos Vives—while developing an acting career on television, on Broadway in Les Misérables and later Evita, and in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
