Sophia Stel

Based in Vancouver, Sophia Stel develops a producer’s and singer-songwriter’s approach to writing that places her music at the crossroads of alternative pop and melodic, dream-tinged electronic music. The Sophia Stel project first drew attention with the single “ineedthat,” a track where intimate tension, queer sensitivity and suspended textures intersect. Her aesthetic relies on supple breakbeats, misty synth layers and melodies that move between fragility, distance and memory, in a register that evokes both dream pop and experimental alt-pop. Active on stage, Sophia Stel has shared bills with A.G. Cook, situating her work within an electronic pop scene attentive to hybrid forms and off-centre productions. In 2024 she released the EP Object Permanence, a coherent extension of a personal universe in which the song remains central while leaving ample room for atmospheres, rhythmic ruptures and a melancholic sense of the future.
