Kiwi jr.

Formed in Toronto in the late 2010s, Kiwi Jr. operates within an indie rock vein that blends jangle pop, power pop, garage rock and melodic post-punk. They emerged with Football Money in 2019, a debut released on Mint Records, and followed with Cooler Returns (2021) and Chopper (2022), both issued by Sub Pop. Centered on Jeremy Gaudet’s songwriting, Kiwi Jr. crafts short, highly melodic songs driven by bright guitars, a straightforward delivery and lyrics attentive to everyday details, irony and urban scenes. On Chopper, produced by Dan Boeckner, the band broadens its sonic palette with more keyboards and a darker, nocturnal mood, while retaining the nervy punch of their early output. Active on the Canadian and North American independent stages, Kiwi Jr. has quickly built a coherent and fast-moving presence in the anglophone rock circuit of the early 2020s.
