The Tubs

Formed in Cardiff in 2018, The Tubs continue the thread of the Welsh indie scene, bringing together around Owen Williams several musicians who previously played in Joanna Gruesome, including Max Warren. The band now takes the form of a quartet with Dan Lucas and Taylor Stewart. The Tubs craft a nervy, melodic indie rock informed by jangle pop, 1980s college rock and British folk-rock inflections, featuring bright guitars, a pronounced sense of rhythmic tension and a vocal style that is more dry than demonstrative. After their first single, "I Don’t Know How It Works" (2020), The Tubs released the EP Names in 2021 and their debut album Dead Meat in 2023 on Trouble In Mind. The group then became part of a wider network of outfits linked to the London independent scene, within the informal Gob Nation collective, where its members cross paths with acts such as Ex-Vöid, GN Band and Sniffany & the Nits. In 2025 The Tubs issued their second album, Cotton Crown, again on Trouble In Mind, featuring backing vocals from Lan McArdle on this record as on the previous one. The band's overall trajectory sketches a focused arc between post-punk heritage, melodic songwriting and onstage group energy.
