Blaudzun
The project is led by Dutch singer-songwriter Johannes Sigmond, born in Arnhem in 1974. Performing as Blaudzun, he works within an indie rock and folk vein with orchestral pop touches. After several years on the Netherlands’ independent scene, the musician released his self-titled debut album in 2008, followed by Seadrift Soundmachine in 2010, which positioned Blaudzun with a mix of intimate songs and expansive arrangements. Heavy Flowers (2012) and Promises of No Man’s Land (2014) extended this dense, melodic approach, while the Jupiter cycle, issued in two parts in 2016 and 2017, explored more rhythmic and luminous forms. The album UP (2018) and π (2022) confirmed Blaudzun’s roots in a landscape where indie folk, alternative rock and string- and brass-infused pop meet, featuring a vocal timbre that is often deep and taut. On stage, Blaudzun typically appears with an expanded band, allowing studio arrangements to be translated into a more direct sound, regularly heard in clubs and festivals across the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany — from club venues to major European rock events.
