Marble Sounds
Anchored in the Belgian independent scene, Marble Sounds is built around composer and singer Pieter Van Dessel, who initially turned the project into a songwriting laboratory before opening it up to a stable core of musicians drawn notably from other indie formations in the country. Between indie pop, intimate folk and touches of post‑rock, Marble Sounds develops a melodic and contemplative sound where a soft voice, string arrangements, piano and discreet guitars create restrained and finely detailed atmospheres. The band drew attention with the album Nice Is Good in 2010, then refined its writing on Dear Me, Look Up (2013), where Marble Sounds placed more emphasis on classic song structures and precise work on vocal harmonies. The Advice to Travel Light, released in 2018, explores a more stripped‑down aesthetic centered on slow tempos and tighter instrumentation, while the 2022 album Marble Sounds continues this line by playing with warmer nuances and an even more pared‑down production. Regularly appearing on club and festival stages in Belgium and neighbouring countries, Marble Sounds is part of a network of collaborations within the European indie scene while retaining a recognisable sonic identity centred on Pieter Van Dessel’s voice and an intimacy‑focused songwriting.
