Circa Waves

Formed in Liverpool in 2013 around Kieran Shudall, Sam Rourke and Joe Falconer — later joined by drummer Colin Jones — Circa Waves belong to a direct, melodic and nervy strand of English indie rock, where bright guitars, garage energy and tightly wound choruses are central. The band drew notice from their earliest singles, including Get Away / Good for Me (2013) and Stuck in My Teeth, then quickly toured the UK and appeared on bills such as the NME Awards Tour, opening for Interpol, Temples and Royal Blood, and sharing stages with acts like The 1975 and The Libertines. Their debut album Young Chasers arrived in 2015 and cemented that lively, sunlit sound; Different Creatures (2017) introduced denser songwriting and a darker alt-rock edge. Circa Waves moved toward a more open indie-pop/rock approach with What’s It Like Over There? (2019) and explored a sharper contrast between tension and lightness on Sad Happy (2020). Never Going Under (2023) continues this trajectory, maintaining a taste for short, dynamic, melodic songs informed by British club culture and major festivals.
