Alexisonfire

Formed in 2001 in St. Catharines, Ontario, Alexisonfire is a Canadian post-hardcore band whose music blends abrasive guitars, alternating melodic vocals and screams, and a strong punk influence. Centered on George Pettit, Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele and initially Jesse Ingelevics, the band released a self-titled debut in 2002 characterized by a raw, fast sound. They refined their songwriting on Watch Out! (2004), adding more melodies and crafted structures, and moved toward a heavier, darker aesthetic with Crisis (2006) while maintaining the tension between aggressive passages and sung choruses; this trajectory continued on Old Crows/Young Cardinals (2009). After extensive international touring and a breakup announced in 2011, the band gradually reunited for occasional shows and then in the studio, releasing Otherness in 2022, which extends their mix of post-hardcore, alternative rock and more atmospheric touches. In the meantime, members pursued side projects — notably Dallas Green’s City and Colour and Wade MacNeil’s involvement with Gallows and his project Black Lungs — which have fed Alexisonfire’s sonic identity and secured their enduring place in the Canadian and international rock scene.
