Senses Fail

Formed in 2001 in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Senses Fail emerged from the early-2000s American post-hardcore and emo wave. Their sound blends tense guitars, melodic choruses and a mix of clean singing and screams, led by Buddy Nielsen, who has remained the only constant member through numerous lineup changes. After the EP From the Depths of Dreams in 2002 (reissued in 2003), Senses Fail quickly found a place on the punk, hardcore and alternative circuits, notably through Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos tours. Let It Enfold You (2004) established a nervous, emotionally charged songwriting style, continued on Still Searching (2006) and Life Is Not a Waiting Room (2008). Across their records the band has shifted between melodic post-hardcore, accessible screamo and harder edges, as on The Fire (2010), Renacer (2013) and Pull the Thorns from Your Heart (2015). They followed with If There Is Light, It Will Find You (2018) and Hell Is in Your Head (2022), while remaining active on the U.S. live scene. Senses Fail remains associated with an aesthetic where hardcore urgency intersects with direct emo vocal lines.
