Kontravoid

Born in Canada and based in Los Angeles, Cameron Findlay has been developing Kontravoid since the early 2010s as a solo project rooted in the darkwave, EBM, electro, and post-punk scenes. Under this name, Kontravoid builds a cold, nocturnal aesthetic, comprised of tight basslines, martial rhythms, and synthetic melodies that leave ample space for pop-writing. A first self-titled album appeared in 2012, laying the foundations for a sound that is both abrasive and melancholic, which Findlay then refined through singles and EPs released on labels tied to goth networks and contemporary electronic scenes. Tracks such as Undone (2018), Too Deep (2019), and Faceless (2021) illustrate this evolution toward a more direct form, club-oriented but threaded with a dark, introspective sensibility. Kontravoid thus floats between live formats and DJ sets, in contexts ranging from underground parties to specialized festivals, and has shared bills with projects such as Boy Harsher, ADULT., Drab Majesty, or Hide. Kontravoid's trajectory also includes remixes for other artists in the same sphere, extending its footprint in an international scene where body music, obscure synth-pop, and industrial electronic music intersect.
