Andy C

Andy C, a DJ and drum and bass producer born in 1976 in Walsall, England, grew up in Essex and rose to prominence in the early 1990s within the British rave and jungle scene. In 1992 he co-founded RAM Records with Ant Miles. He initially released productions under the aliases Origin Unknown and RAM Trilogy; with the latter he issued the album Molten Beats in 1999, solidifying a dancefloor-oriented drum and bass style characterized by fast rhythms and heavy basslines. At the same time Andy C honed a DJ aesthetic built on tight mixes, frequent tempo changes, and a preference for seamless, high-energy transitions, which gradually took him from London clubs to major international festivals. The Andy C: Nightlife compilation series (2003–2013) and the 2004 mix FabricLive.18 document this studio approach through a selection of contemporary drum and bass tracks and RAM Records releases. As a label director he has supported the rise of British producers associated with RAM, such as Sub Focus and Wilkinson, while continuing to release music under his own name and via collective projects. Still focused on an immediate, effective drum and bass sound, Andy C today alternates between international tours, extended club residencies, and curatorial work for his catalogue, maintaining his rootedness in the evolution of the English electronic scene.
