Elder

Formed in Massachusetts in 2006 around Nick DiSalvo, Elder initially operated in a stoner-doom register with massive riffs and extended formats, before evolving their writing toward a more melodic heavy-psych informed by progressive rock and psychedelia. After a split with Queen Elephantine in 2006, Elder released a self-titled debut in 2008, followed by Dead Roots Stirring in 2011 — a turning point where the stoner-rock side became more prominent. With Lore in 2015 the band significantly broadened its palette, developing longer, more structured and nuanced pieces. That direction continued on Reflections of a Floating World in 2017 — the year Mike Risberg joined on guitar and keyboards — and on Omens (2020) and Innate Passage (2022). Now based in Berlin, Elder functions as a quartet consisting of Nick DiSalvo, Jack Donovan, Mike Risberg and Georg Edert, who joined in 2019 after drummer Matt Couto's departure. In addition to their studio albums, Elder also released The Gold & Silver Sessions in 2019 and the collaborative album Eldovar: A Story of Darkness & Light with Kadavar in 2021.
