King Buffalo
Based in Rochester, New York, King Buffalo operates in a space where heavy psychedelic rock intersects with stoner, space rock and motifs borrowed from krautrock. The trio builds its tracks around slow to mid tempos, circular bass lines, very metric drumming and stretched guitars that favour progression, repetition and a gradual build of tension over immediate impact. After a self-titled EP and Repeater in 2015, King Buffalo refined this expansive, hypnotic writing on Orion (2016) before broadening it with Longing to Be the Mountain (2018). The band’s subsequent output confirmed that continuity with Dead Star (2020), then a tighter cycle around The Burden of Restlessness and Acheron, both released in 2021, followed by Regenerator in 2022. On stage, King Buffalo plays North American and European circuits connected to the psych, doom and stoner scenes, with an approach built on duration, sonic depth and a clearly defined trio dynamic. For King Buffalo, density comes less from constant saturation than from the space left between motifs, giving their repertoire an earthy, cosmic and blues-rock hue.
