Genesis Owusu

Genesis Owusu plays King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow on 3 December 2026. Born in Ghana as Kofi Owusu-Ansah and raised in Canberra, he has shaped a project at the crossroads of hip-hop, funk, post-punk, soul and an exploratory pop instinct. He first drew attention in the late 2010s with rhythm-forward singles that shifted between rapped cadences and sung hooks, marked by taut grooves, a taste for tension and a feel for melody.

His debut album, Smiling with No Teeth (2021), folds themes of identity, isolation and social dynamics into a mix of frontal rap, dry funk, wiry guitars and more danceable passages. STRUGGLER (2023) pushes further into angular rock, spoken word textures and driving rhythms while keeping a physical, group-focused approach. On stage, he switches registers with ease, moving from clipped beats to serrated guitar lines, letting the vocals carry both bite and release without settling into a single register.
