Yard Act

Leeds outfit Yard Act brings its sharp-edged post-punk storytelling to O2 Guildhall, Southampton, on 24 November 2026. Formed by vocalist James Smith and bassist Ryan Needham, the band has shaped a clear identity around taut grooves, dry wit and lyrics that map everyday Britain with an eye for detail. Early singles set the tone before the debut album The Overload (2022), where talk-sung narratives ride elastic basslines and wiry guitars to sketch small hustles, office chatter and political fatigue without losing the pulse.

On stage, the quartet condenses that mix into terse rhythms and spoken vignettes, flipping between narrative monologues and hooky refrains while the rhythm section keeps everything locked in. The songs move lean and direct, leaning on repetition, call-and-response and clipped riffs to frame Smith’s delivery. Since breaking through on festival circuits and headline tours, Yard Act has nudged its sound toward broader textures and bigger choruses while keeping the focus on story, cadence and the everyday scenes that fuel their writing.
