Kovacs

Behind the stage name Kovacs is Sharon Kovacs, born in Baarlo in the Netherlands in 1990, who since the mid-2010s has developed a musical style situated between soul, dark pop, rhythm and blues and touches of trip hop. Trained at the Rock City Institute in Eindhoven, Kovacs first drew attention in 2014 with the song "My Love" and the EP of the same name, before releasing her debut album "Shades of Black" in 2015. Her deep voice and restrained interpretation established a universe where the arrangements draw equally from orchestral soul and a dramatic, cinematic pop. Kovacs quickly moved through festival stages—from North Sea Jazz and Lowlands to Pinkpop, Rock Werchter, Glastonbury and Sziget—while broadening her range on 2018's "Cheap Smell", produced with Liam Howe. Over the years she has alternated standalone singles and collaborations, notably with Parov Stelar on "Snake Charmer" (2019) and with the Metropole Orkest. In 2023 Kovacs released "Child of Sin", conceived with Jonathan Quarmby, a third album in which her dark, theatrical soul blends with a more expansive pop sound, featuring Till Lindemann on the title track.
