Awa Ly

Born in Paris in 1977 into a family of Senegalese origin, Awa Ly has built a career between France, Senegal and Italy, where she lives in Rome. A singer, songwriter and actress, Awa Ly has developed since the late 2000s a music that sits at the crossroads of soul, pop, folk and jazz, characterised by spare writing, supple rhythms and a deep voice that also carries African and Mediterranean inflections. Her discography includes Modulated (2009), Five and a Feather (2016) and Safe and Sound (2020). Over the years she has performed on stages across Europe, the United States and Canada, and notably accompanied Pino Daniele on tour in the summer of 2013. Alongside her musical work, Awa Ly has pursued an acting career in Italy with appearances in film and television, which illuminate an artistic world where song engages with a restrained yet fluid narrative sense.
