If you see the name Kovacs on a poster, you know there won’t be a slick pop show. Behind the project is Sharon Kovacs, born in Baarlo, with a dark, weathered voice that can just as easily lean toward soul as toward R&B, trip-hop, and cinematic pop. Since My Love (2014) and the debut Shades of Black (2015), she has been building her own universe: sleek, intense and full of room for nuance, where every detail in the arrangements matters. Live, that tension comes across even more clearly: restrained where possible, grand where it must be, always with that recognizable timing and phrasing. On Cheap Smell (2018) she shifted toward crisper production, while Child of Sin (2023) widens her sound without losing its shadow side, with collaborations that further deepen her theatrical soul. On 22 January 2027 Kovacs will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen in a set focused on voice, atmosphere, and songs that linger.
