The Lightning Seeds

Born in Liverpool in the late 1980s around Ian Broudie, The Lightning Seeds originally began as a studio project carried out almost single-handedly by this musician and producer, who had previously played in Big in Japan, Original Mirrors and Care. The Lightning Seeds are part of a melodic English pop-rock tradition at the crossroads of indie pop, alternative rock and Britpop, characterized by carefully written songs, clear choruses and polished production. Broudie recorded Cloudcuckooland almost entirely by himself in 1990, then developed the project with Sense in 1992, which includes The Life of Riley, before expanding The Lightning Seeds into a full live band after Jollification in 1994. The 1990s established the group on the British pop and festival circuit with tracks such as Change, Lucky You, Perfect and You Showed Me, while the songwriting also opened up to occasional collaborations, notably with Terry Hall. In 1996 The Lightning Seeds recorded Three Lions with David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, which became a lasting landmark in British football culture. After Dizzy Heights in 1996 and a more dance-oriented turn on Tilt in 1999, The Lightning Seeds took a long break before releasing Four Winds in 2009 and See You in the Stars in 2022, which continue the blend of bright pop, supple guitars and precise arrangements associated with the name.
