Born Grace Latoya Hamilton in Spanish Town and raised in Portmore, Jamaica, Spice has established herself since the early 2000s in Jamaican dancehall with an incisive spoken vocal, a direct writing style and an approach that blends dancehall, reggae and reggae fusion. After her on-stage debut at Sting in 2000, she recorded her first tracks for Madhouse Records, including "Complain" in 2003, and then drew notice in the local circuit with "Fight Over Man" before broadening her audience thanks to "Romping Shop" with Vybz Kartel in 2009. Spice subsequently released the EP Spice in 2009, followed by So Mi Like It in 2014, led by the title track of the same name, which has become a landmark in her discography. Over the years, she moves between the Caribbean dancehall scene, collaborations with artists such as Shaggy, Sean Paul, Missy Elliott or Jax Jones, and broader visibility through the Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta show. After the Captured mixtape in 2018, Spice released the album 10 in 2021, followed by Emancipated in 2022 and Mirror 25 in 2024. Her repertoire preserves the energy of sound system dancehall while incorporating productions more open to contemporary reggae, urban pop and transatlantic exchanges.
