Formed in Cobourg, Ontario, the Canadian duo cleopatrick brings together singer‑guitarist Luke Gruntz and drummer Ian Fraser around a direct rock sound that blends hard rock, alternative rock and indie influences. Childhood friends, the two musicians began playing together as teenagers and emerged in the mid‑2010s by releasing their first tracks online, before issuing the EP “14” in 2016 and “The Boys” in 2018, which includes the song “Hometown” that expanded their audience beyond the local scene. The cleopatrick project developed a guitar‑and‑drums aesthetic, featuring heavy riffs, tight structures and lyrics focused on friendship, small‑town life and the tensions of coming of age. In 2021 cleopatrick released their debut full‑length album “BUMMER”, which consolidated this approach by emphasizing contrasts between massive passages and more melodic moments. The band then toured extensively across North America and Europe, playing clubs and festivals, while aligning with the new rock mafia collective, an informal network of independent artists sharing a DIY approach to producing and distributing their music.
