The Blue Stones
In Windsor, Ontario, the duo The Blue Stones brings together guitarist and vocalist Tarek Jafar and drummer and backing singer Justin Tessier around a taut brand of rock that draws on blues, garage, and alternative. Formed in the early 2010s, the band first honed its songs on the Canadian local scene before gradually expanding its touring across North America and then Europe. The release of the 2018 album Black Holes marked a key milestone, establishing a sound centered on heavy riffs, forward-driving drums, and melodic vocal lines often reinforced by rhythmic backing vocals. With Hidden Gems in 2021, made notably with producer Paul Meany, The Blue Stones introduced more pop and soul elements into their writing while preserving a straightforward rock foundation. The 2022 album Pretty Monster extended that progression with more assertive structures and dynamics crafted with the stage in mind. On record and in concert, The Blue Stones aim, as a two-piece, for a dense, high-contrast impact, playing with tempo breaks, shifts in texture, and a constant dialogue between guitar, drums, and voice. This approach enables the band to move comfortably within both independent rock circuits and more mainstream lineups, leaning on a repertoire built primarily around these three studio albums.
