Freak Slug

Freak Slug is the musical project of Xenya Genovese, who uses this name as a narrative framework to articulate identity, references and cultural tones. She released her first tracks in the early 2020s, then shaped her discography around several short formats: Videos (2021), which includes 'Radio', a track that surpassed 13.5 million plays on Spotify, followed by I'm In Love (2022) and Viva La Vulva (2023) — projects that established the foundations of her language, between popular imagery, internet codes and generational references. In 2024 she pursued a broader ambition with I Blow Out Big Candles (2024), her first long format, conceived as an extension of her universe where the aesthetic, visual and sonic approach functions as a coherent whole rather than a collection of standalone tracks. Trained in fine arts and self-taught in music, she frames her work within a multidisciplinary logic where video, voice, narrative and iconography are considered simultaneously. In 2025 her trajectory shifted strongly toward live performance, with an appearance at SXSW in Austin, followed by a UK and European tour including sets at Latitude Festival, Kendal Calling, Leeds Festival and Rock N Roll Circus, marking an expansion of her activity beyond strictly digital circuits. Freak Slug develops an artistic format that relies on cultural collage, autofiction, millennial symbols and a writing where humour, corporeality, internet aesthetics and pop references intersect, while remaining independent in execution, production of her visual universe and the structuring of her narratives.
