Macie Stewart
Born in 1993, Macie Stewart grew up in Chicago, where she received classical training in piano and violin at the Community Music Division of DePaul University before joining the local indie rock, jazz and improvisation scenes. A multi-instrumentalist, Stewart has moved since the 2010s between pop songwriting, chamber music and freer forms, first with the band Kids These Days and later in the duo Ohmme alongside Sima Cunningham, with whom she released the album Parts in 2018. In parallel, she has developed more experimental work, visible on the 2020 record Recipe for a Boiled Egg made with Lia Kohl, where the dialogue between strings, piano and minimalist textures takes center stage. She also appears in a wide range of contexts with artists such as Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Jeff Tweedy, Charles Rumback, Ken Vandermark and Makaya McCraven, reflecting her transversal role in the Chicago scene. Under her own name, Mouth Full of Glass was released in 2021, followed by When the Distance is Blue in 2025, continuing an approach in which instrumental writing, improvisation and a subtle chamber-pop intersect without settling into a single register.
