Hannah Frances

Born in 1997, Hannah Frances divides her time between Vermont and ties to Chicago, in a career marked by the North American independent folk scene and a writing practice that goes beyond the song itself. A singer, guitarist, songwriter, dancer and poet, Hannah Frances develops music at the crossroads of avant-folk, progressive rock, jazz and contemporary music, with long, evolving compositions, driven by percussion-forward fingerpicking and highly mobile vocal lines. Her project exists both as a solo act and with an expanded ensemble that can bring together up to seven musicians, which directly influences the scale of the arrangements and the space given to collective dynamics. Active on tour in the United States as well as internationally, Hannah Frances has shared the bill with artists from folk and indie such as Robin Pecknold, Florist, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Weather Station, Hiss Golden Messenger, Billie Marten, Whitney or Damien Jurado. Her discography includes Bedrock (2019) and Keeper of the Shepherd (2024), albums that show an increasingly architected writing, between intimate narration, harmonic tensions and open forms. Nested in Tangles is announced for 2025.
