Chris Schwarzwälder
Born in Frankfurt am Main, Chris Schwarzwälder initially trained in the hip-hop environment of the 1990s before moving closer to the techno and house scenes, notably frequenting Robert Johnson, the central club in Offenbach’s neighbourhood. Settling in Berlin in 2009, he began to develop his DJ activity there, first around KaterHolzig and later Kater Blau, where his approach became more identifiable: deep, restrained and melancholic house with often fluid tempos, muted textures and a club sensibility that leaves room for improvisation. Also credited as Christopher Schwarzwälder, he has built his career across solo productions and regular collaborations. In 2013 he joined the Feathered Sun collective alongside artists such as Acid Pauli, Nu, Jo.Ke and Raz O’Hara, working in a more organic, collective setting. His long-term duo work with Mira, both on stage and in the studio, includes back-to-back sets tied to Kater Blau’s history and a shared language oriented towards intimate, club-focused, introspective house. With Iannis Ritter, Chris Schwarzwälder also explores a more melodic and oblique side, situated between electro and dance-oriented electronic music.
