Mitchell Tenpenny
Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Mitchell Tenpenny develops a songwriting rooted in contemporary country while incorporating hints of pop, rock and R&B that give his songs a direct and melodic form. Initially active as a songwriter in Nashville, he notably contributed to writing "If the Boot Fits" for Granger Smith before releasing his first album Black Crow in 2015, which features "Cane's Creek" with The SteelDrivers. After the Linden Ave EP in 2017, Mitchell Tenpenny broadens his audience with "Drunk Me," released in 2018 on a self-titled EP and later re-recorded on Telling All My Secrets, released in the same year. His music rests on country-pop choruses, a clean production and recurring themes around breakups, nostalgia, and daily life, with a voice that moves between sung and more flexible phrasing. Tenpenny then follows with Midtown Diaries in 2021, the Naughty List album in 2021, then This Is the Heavy in 2022, which extends this blend of modern country and radio-pop. Over the years, he also appears alongside other artists like Chris Young, Seaforth, RaeLynn, or Colt Ford, and remains connected to the Nashville scene, as much by his songwriting career as by his tours and regular releases.
