K‐Maro
Born in Beirut in 1980 and settled in Montreal with his family in the early 1990s, K-Maro, real name Cyril Kamar, first established himself in the Quebec hip-hop scene with the duo LMDS, active in the 1990s and authors of the albums Les Messagers du Son (1997) and Il Faudrait Leur Dire (1999). After the group split, K-Maro began a solo journey at the crossroads of Francophone rap, pop, R&B and more electronic productions, with writing that alternates French and English, sometimes tinged with references to his Lebanese origins. This formula took on an international dimension with La Good Life (2004), driven by the track Femme Like U, and continued with Million Dollar Boy (2005), 10th Anniversary: Platinum Remixes (2006), Perfect Stranger (2008), a mostly English-language album, and 01.10 (2010). K-Maro's style rests on very melodic choruses, smooth rap and arrangements calibrated to bring club, urban pop and chanson closer together. Throughout his career, K-Maro collaborates notably with Shy'm, Corneille, Cheb Mami, Belly or Anggun, while also developing production and label activities between Canada, France and the United States.
