Kolter

Based in Cologne, Germany, producer and DJ Johannes Kolter develops, under the name Kolter, a personal vision of house that builds on his earlier work as DJOKO. First noticed in the latter half of the 2010s with a series of house and minimal house EPs, Kolter gradually established himself on the European scene through regular releases on specialist labels and a strong presence in the vinyl circuit. His music relies on supple rhythms, melodic basslines close to the garage aesthetic, fragmented vocal samples and deep textures, with forays into tech house and clear 1990s influences. The deliberate shift from DJOKO to Kolter in the early 2020s accompanied an evolution toward a more direct, dancefloor-focused sound while retaining a taste for detailed arrangements and progressive constructions. Alongside his productions, Kolter expands his universe via his label Koltrax, which allows him to articulate his different facets — from classic house to more minimalist sounds and more percussive variations — in a continuity that links his Kolter releases with his earlier DJOKO catalogue.
