Chaton
Behind Chaton is Simon Cohen, born in Lyon in 1983. He first appeared in the early 2000s under the name Siméo, working in a vein of French chanson and pop. With Les Idées bleues (2003), Envie (2006) and Sous un ciel trois étoiles (2009) he established a writing style focused on the text before evolving his project into Chaton in 2018. Under this name, Chaton has developed a more electronic French pop, where dub rhythms, supple melodies and a spoken-sung delivery intersect, with songs often rooted in the intimate and in urban everyday life. This new period is articulated around Possible (2018), Brune platine and Princesse Pigalle (2019), Héros (2021) and Violent beau (2022). Chaton then released a series of projects at a brisk pace, most often through his own structure Le Contenu. His trajectory also includes collaborative work, notably around Violent beau, conceived with Sony CSL's music research teams, which extends an approach already marked by a taste for hybrid forms between chanson, pop and electronic music.
