Keys N Krates

Formed in Toronto in 2008, Keys N Krates brings together drummer Adam Tune, keyboardist David Matisse, and turntablist Jr. Flo in a rare configuration, at the boundary between a live band and an electronic project. The trio first made their mark with an approach that blends instrumental hip-hop, bass music, house, and R&B, working vocal loops, heavy rhythms, and a strong sense of groove. After the EPs Blackout in 2011, Lucid Dreams and Solow in 2013, Keys N Krates broadened its audience with the track 'Dum Dee Dum' in 2013, then with Every Nite in 2014 and Midnite Mass in 2016. Their journey also includes targeted collaborations, notably with Grandtheft on 'Keep It 100' in 2014 and Katy B on 'Save Me' in 2015. With the album Cura in 2018, Keys N Krates evolved its format toward more vocal-led and melodic songs, in a lane that still crosses electronic and hip-hop with soul and pop influences. The group continues this openness on A Beat Tape For Your Friends in 2019, an instrumental project, then on Original Classic in 2021 and In: Tension in 2023, featuring Ciara, Haviah Mighty, or Lido Pimienta. Through tours in North America and Europe, Keys N Krates has kept this hybrid identity between live-stage energy and club production.
