Vincent Vallières
Anchored in the tradition of the Québécois chanson, Vincent Vallières has, since the late 1990s, developed a repertoire where rock, folk, and francophone pop intersect. Born in 1978 in Sherbrooke, the singer-songwriter began performing on student and independent stages before recording Trente arpents in 1999, a debut album that established a narrative world focused on everyday life, suburban landscapes, and intimate relationships. Vallières refined this writing with Bordel ambiant (2001) and Chacun dans son espace (2003), then gradually steered his arrangements toward a more stripped-down, melodic sound on Le repère tranquille (2006) and Le monde tourne fort (2009). The albums Fabriquer l’aube (2013), Le temps des vivants (2017), and Toute beauté n’est pas perdue (2021) confirmed a shift toward a more acoustic approach, carried by voice and guitar, with lyrics taking center stage. Active mainly in Quebec and French-speaking Canada, Vallières performs in venues and at festivals with a tight-knit band, favoring a direct aesthetic that highlights the language and the stories told in concert.
