Ariane Moffatt

Born in 1979 in Saint‑Romuald, on Quebec City’s south shore, Ariane Moffatt emerged in the early 2000s on the Montreal scene with a blend of pop chanson, electronic music, and soul touches. Trained in music at Cégep de Saint‑Laurent and later at university, she developed a singer‑songwriter practice in which keyboards, electronic rhythms, and vocal melodies take center stage. Her debut album, Aquanaute (2002), marked a notable entrance into the French‑speaking world, followed by Le cœur dans la tête (2005), which asserted a more pop, organic sound, and Tous les sens (2008), with its more expansive production. With MA (2012), Moffatt alternates more between French and English and gravitates toward synth‑pop and R&B songwriting, while 22h22 (2015) explores a nocturnal, intimate pop. The albums Petites mains précieuses (2018) and Incarnat (2021) bring piano, voice, and a more stripped‑down writing back to the forefront, between contemporary chanson and folk influences. In parallel with her albums, Ariane Moffatt composes for television—most notably the soundtrack for the series Trauma (2014)—works as a producer and collaborator with other artists on the Quebec scene, and appears as a coach on mainstream music shows, pursuing a path rooted in the interplay between studio, stage, and media.
