Alexandre Poulin
Quebec singer-songwriter Alexandre Poulin has, since the late 2000s, been developing Francophone folk music centered on storytelling and intimate narration. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, in 1979, he first worked as a teacher before devoting himself fully to writing and music. He released his debut album, "Une lumière allumée," in 2008, establishing a pared-down acoustic universe between folk and chanson, carried by lyrics that delve into daily life, human relationships, and memory. He followed with "Le mouvement des marées" in 2010, then a self-titled album in 2013, confirming his taste for understated arrangements and narrative atmospheres, often close to spoken-sung tales. With "Les temps sauvages" in 2016 and "Nature humaine" in 2019, Poulin broadened his palette toward a more expansive folk-pop while preserving highly text-driven writing and a central connection to the French language. On stage, he offers concerts where songs alternate with narrated segments, extending the balance between speech and melody that characterizes his work within Quebec’s folk chanson scene.
