Les Trois Accords
Founded in Drummondville, Quebec, in the late 1990s, Les Trois Accords established themselves on the francophone rock scene with a blend of pop rock, light punk, and unabashedly humorous songs. Centered around songwriter and singer Simon Proulx, the band quickly shaped a distinctive world of absurd lyrics, skewed everyday situations, and playful language that became their hallmark both on record and on stage. Their debut, Gros mammouth album, released in 2003 and reissued as Gros mammouth album turbo in 2004, firmly anchored the project in Quebec’s musical landscape and paved the way for a run of albums with a more finely honed offbeat tone, notably Grand champion international de course (2006), En beau country (2008), and J’aime ta grand-mère (2012). The subsequent releases—Joie d’être gai (2015), Beaucoup de plaisir (2018), and Présence d’esprit (2022)—carried this approach forward with more contrasting arrangements while keeping the focus on direct melodies and instantly memorable hooks. Active on festival and venue stages in Quebec, francophone Canada, and Europe, Les Trois Accords occupy a singular space between rock-tinged chanson, irony, and pop culture, with a repertoire that remains largely francophone and accessible.
