USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker)

Formed in the mid-2000s in Toronto, Canada, USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) brings together singer and guitarist Ashley Buchholz and DJ Jason “Human Kebab” Parsons around a blend of alternative rock, electronic influences, and rhythms close to drum and bass. The duo drew attention with the EP 'Welding the C:' in 2008, which established an aesthetic based on the contrast between acoustic guitar, spoken flows, melodic singing and electronic textures. The album 'Questamation' (2009) confirmed this hybrid direction—between indie rock, breakbeat and pop touches—and positioned USS within the Canadian alternative scene. Subsequent releases, including 'Advanced Basics' (2014), 'New World Alphabet' (2017) and 'Einsteins of Consciousness' (2020), continued this exploration of contrasts between club energy, catchy choruses and more introspective moods. On stage, USS relies on a very direct dynamic between the duo, with Human Kebab taking a pronounced performer/host role opposite Buchholz's vocals. Throughout the 2010s, USS played numerous shows and tours across Canada while developing a loyal following in rock and indie circles, notably thanks to an easily identifiable sound that combines song structures, samples, scratching and electronic pulses.
