Hollerado

Formed in the mid-2000s in the Manotick suburb of Ottawa, Canada, Hollerado established itself as an indie rock quartet led by Menno Versteeg, Nixon Boyd, Dean Baxter and Jake Boyd. The band quickly developed a blend of melodic guitars, hook-laden choruses and lyrics often tinged with humor and everyday observation, positioned between power pop and alternative rock. After several self-released recordings, Hollerado issued the 2009 album Record in a Bag, whose direct, lo-fi aesthetic reflected a strongly DIY approach within the Canadian indie scene. The group's career then centered on intensive touring and repeated appearances at North American venues and festivals, followed by a series of albums that progressively refined their songwriting, from White Paint (2013) to 111 Songs (2015), a project in which Hollerado wrote a song for a large number of fans. With Born Yesterday (2017) and Retaliation Vacation (2019) the band expanded its pop arrangements while maintaining concise song formats, before ceasing activity the same year and leaving a compact discography documenting more than a decade of Canadian indie rock.
