Social Distortion

Formed in the late 1970s in Fullerton, California, Social Distortion emerged from the Orange County punk scene around singer‑guitarist Mike Ness, with an initial core that included Dennis Danell. Initially associated with the aggressive West Coast punk sound, the band quickly refined an identity that blended punk with classic rock’n’roll, rockabilly, country and blues influences. Their first album, “Mommy’s Little Monster” (1983), captured Social Distortion’s raw energy, before a hiatus marked by Ness’s addiction problems and incarceration. The comeback with “Prison Bound” (1988) introduced more rootsy tones and themes focused on redemption and bruised life trajectories. The albums “Social Distortion” (1990), “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell” (1992) and “White Light, White Heat, White Trash” (1996) established this mix of punk, classic rock and narrative songs rooted in everyday American life. After Dennis Danell’s death in 2000, Social Distortion reorganized around Mike Ness and musicians such as Jonny Wickersham, continuing with “Sex, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll” (2004) and “Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes” (2011), where the band emphasized rock‑roots and heartland colors while retaining distorted guitars and straightforward melodic songwriting, regularly showcased on stage in the United States and Europe.
