Strung Out

Formed in the late 1980s in Simi Valley, California, Strung Out is part of the West Coast melodic punk rock scene while incorporating elements of metal and hardcore. Built around Jason Cruz's vocals and a technically proficient twin-guitar attack, the band developed a fast, precise and melodic style, marked by song structures often more complex than classic skate punk. Signed to Fat Wreck Chords in the early 1990s, Strung Out gained attention with Another Day in Paradise (1994), followed by Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues (1996) and Twisted by Design (1998), which solidified their place in Californian punk. Throughout the 2000s the band shifted its songwriting toward darker, more metallic textures with An American Paradox (2002) and Exile in Oblivion (2004), while remaining tied to the independent punk touring circuit and specialized festivals. Transmission.Alpha.Delta (2015) and Songs of Armor and Devotion (2019) continued this direction, combining catchy melodies, fast rhythms and heavier passages, confirming Strung Out's intent to explore a more technical and introspective side of punk rock — between the skate heritage of the 1990s and contemporary metal influences.
