Tape B

Under the name Tape B, Kemal Berk Alkanat has been developing in the United States an approach to electronic music shaped by his Turkish origins and strongly informed by mid-2000s dubstep. Born in Turkey and settled in the United States in childhood, Tape B builds a sound that blends old-school dubstep, contemporary bass music and hip-hop influences, with massive basslines, dry rhythms and a pronounced taste for nostalgic textures. Around the turn of the 2020s, Tape B gradually made his mark on the North American bass scene thanks to a series of original productions, edits and remixes that circulated widely online and in DJ sets. His trajectory also includes releases or coverage on outlets and platforms associated with that scene, among them Deadbeats, UKF, Subsidia, Wakaan and Wubaholics. Tape B therefore operates within a circuit of clubs and festivals centered on dubstep and bass aesthetics, with a sonic identity based on the dialogue between old-school references and more current codes.
