Peekaboo

Active on the American bass scene, Peekaboo is the project of producer Matthew Lucas, a Detroit native who later moved to Los Angeles. Rooted in a dubstep and bass music aesthetic, Peekaboo delivers a minimal, heavy sound built around dominant basslines, chopped rhythms, and textures informed as much by hip-hop as by horror film scores. The project emerged in the mid‑2010s with a series of tracks released online, then took clearer shape through EPs like “Imposters” (2018) and “Waking Nightmare” (2018) on the Wakaan label, followed by “Impossible” (2019), which extends this approach across dubstep, trap, and experimental bass. On stage, Peekaboo became part of the North American circuit of festivals and clubs devoted to high‑intensity electronic music, gradually expanding its touring internationally. Collaborations with G‑Rex, Bassnectar, and Zeds Dead place Peekaboo at the crossroads of several contemporary bass scenes, between soundsystem culture, EDM, and darker experimentation.
