Basement Jaxx

In Brixton, south London, around the duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe formed in the mid-1990s, Basement Jaxx established itself within the British electronic scene by blending house, garage, disco, soul, pop and Afro-Latin rhythms into a sound focused on vocals, percussion and stylistic collage. They first emerged through clubs and their own label Atlantic Jaxx, gaining wider attention with a series of maxi singles and the album Remedy in 1999, followed by Rooty (2001), Kish Kash (2003), Crazy Itch Radio (2006), Scars (2009) and Junto (2014). Their trajectory alternates between studio productions, DJ sets and concerts with an expanded lineup; they frequently use guest vocalists rather than a permanent singer, which gives Basement Jaxx a shifting yet instantly recognizable identity. Their music pairs a clear dance foundation with dense, often colorful arrangements, where club grooves, pop hooks, funk basslines and influences from Caribbean and African music intersect — a format that travels easily between festival stages and clubs.
